What Are E-Fuels?
E-fuels (or electrofuels) are synthetic fuels made by combining green hydrogen (produced via electrolysis using renewable electricity) with captured CO₂ (or other carbon sources).
They can take multiple forms: e-methane, e-kerosene, e-diesel, e-gasoline, e-methanol, e-ammonia, etc.
Because they are synthetic but chemically similar to conventional fuels, they can often be used in existing internal combustion engines or infrastructure — especially valuable for hard-to-electrify sectors like aviation and shipping.
